Lessons I’ve Learned as a Design Founder in a Constantly Evolving Industry

You already know that it is not easy to meet client expectations and user satisfaction. At FRD Studio, we design websites and applications with beautiful and user-friendly interfaces. Our work has been full of experiments, successes, failures, and growth.

Most importantly, to be successful in this industry, one must have adaptability, innovation, teamwork, time management, and feedback. But…what truly matters is designing great products that are meaningful to users.
In this article, you will see five lessons that have helped me in my founding and leadership journey within this evolving industry.

1. Adaptability Is the Key to the Creative Process

Creativity is not a fixed process, and creativity is not always straightforward. This means one is able to have a clear vision of how a particular project will be achieved but can be molded by the new information he/she receives.

This fintech app project we delivered recently had a clean and simple design that was chosen relevant to the client’s brief, as was recommended by experts. But real users failed when trying to make sense of the content presented in this format during usability tests. Moving from static visuals and tables to live data and dynamic visualizations of active dashboards increased user interest by 60%.

So, you should learn not to be rigid but be ready to change tactics as the project progresses.

2. User-centred design is Non-Negotiable

At FRD Studio, design is always done with people in mind. While a beautiful design is preferred, it’s not sufficient. A design must solve the problem of the user to make them happy.

Audience needs, behaviors, and pains are the first concepts to get in any design process since they shape the scope and goals of any created object.

Design empathy adds value to a product and guarantees that users are satisfied. Audience analysis can be considered the best time-investing strategy one can have.

3. Collaboration and Teamwork Elevate Every Project

At FRD Studios, all projects are focused on collaboration and the involvement of different viewpoints.

On e-commerce projects, all the designers, developers, and marketers sit together in one room where they work. Some people thought about the aesthetics of designs; others cared about the functionality of developments; and those who introduced users themselves. This entire approach made it possible to create a product that can improve the sales of the client by 25 percent in the first quarter.

This tells us that promoting the importance of every member within the team and encouraging everyone to exercise their power where they are located.

4. Feedback and Improvements are important

In the world of design, and especially in the world of fashion, nothing gets achieved on the first try. The use of the iterative process, which is noted by feedback, has been revolutionary for FRD Studio.

Early in my career, in one of the projects I was involved in, we had developed an app with no prior testing. It was aesthetically pleasing but did not survive the test of user satisfaction because of problems with the navigation. This made me understand the need to test the designs time and over again. Currently, all projects have broad usability tests, and the client feedback is incorporated into the process at every turn.

For most people, feedback is seen as criticism, even when it is meant to be constructive information taken to help a particular organization progress.

Revise and revise again, and do not be afraid to do another revision over and over.

5. Time Management and Attention to Detail

As your agency grows in size, it becomes necessary for the culture to be creative in innovation. It has been noted that there can be several issues. Working to deadlines is always a good challenge, especially when all you want to do is create something completely off the wall.

In my opinion, as a founder, succeeding at organizing time and being attentive to everything that is happening around you helps to create great work.

It is argued that great design involves paying keen attention to detail. It’s not about designing

pretty pictures, but coming up with solutions that make a difference in society.

Such a mindset has made FRD Studio unique in an industry where most of the firms look alike.

Conclusion

It is well understood that the design industry is dynamic and challenging. For FRD Studio’s founder to succeed, one has to consider several aspects other than the design merit. Such values as flexibility, customer-centrism, teamwork, learning orientation, and orientation on the results—all these and many others are pursued and met here.

Think of each project as a chance to gain some experience, change, and do something good. To my fellow founders and creatives: you have to embrace what you do and never forget that the ultimate focus is always on the users out there using your creations. Of course, design is not about aesthetics only…it is about improving lives.
